Recently, Sun Tec House travelled to Shanghai to attend an international exhibition focused on apparel fabrics and related products.
The visit gave us an opportunity to explore a wide range of fabrics, textiles and innovative materials. We also spoke with manufacturers and design teams from different parts of China and learned more about their work, capabilities and ideas.
What stood out was the diversity of the materials on display. Some were developed for everyday comfort and performance. Others focused on visual expression, texture, colour or new applications.
We saw how China’s textile industry continues to move towards innovation, more responsible material development, functionality and personalisation. Many of the materials combined practical value with considered design, offering new possibilities for lifestyle products and creative projects.
A material may look beautiful, but it also needs to work in real life.
It needs to suit its intended use, meet the right quality expectations and communicate something through its texture, colour or finish.
For Sun Tec House, the exhibition was more than a search for products. It was a way to understand how materials are being developed, how ideas move from concept to production and how different teams approach design and manufacturing.
This perspective matters when considering products for Nordic and international markets. A product needs to be thoughtfully designed, functional and connected to the way people live.
The visit also reinforced the value of direct communication. Meeting manufacturers and designers makes it easier to understand their strengths, discuss possibilities and identify potential partners with a compatible approach to quality and product development.
We hope to continue exploring China’s rich design and manufacturing resources and to find more fabrics, materials and lifestyle products suited to Nordic living and international markets.
For us, Shanghai was a place to observe, learn and discover where the next idea might begin.
